Andrea Kuhn Boeshaar has 26 published novels, 8 published novellas, and a host of collective nonfiction under her belt. She knows the peaks and valleys of the publishing industry and loves to share her experience with other writers. She was an agent for more than 10 years, but is now writing full-time and is represented by the Steve Laube Agency.

The one thing no one really knows about me is that I collect music boxes and that my favorite are the ones made by the San Francisco Music Box Co. (Miralee here…I’m including a picture of one from Andrea’s collection)

Some of Andrea’s recent titles (2008 to present) include: Love Finds You in Miracle, Kentucky (Summerside Press); Be Still…and Let Your Nail Polish Dry (nonfiction with authors Sandie Bricker, Loree Lough, and Debby Mayne – Summerside Press); Heartland Heroes (a collection of 3 short novels, Barbour Publishing) and Seasons of Redemption series, which includes: Unwilling Warrior (Realms/Charisma House) Uncertain Heart (Realms) and Unexpected Love (Realms) Undaunted Faith (Realms). Another series, Fabric of Time, is already contracted for. The first book Threads of Hope will be released in January of 2011.

Additionally, Andrea is a certified Christian life coach. She is presently taking classes to be certified in Christian counseling.

Andrea is a cofounder of ACFW. She’s taught at several of the organization’s conferences as well as the Oregon Christian Writers Conference, Write-To-Publish, and Mt. Hermon Christian Writers Conference.

Can the McCabe Brothers Find Love Amidst the Chaos of the Arizona Territory?

  7. Excellent question, Mary. Sometimes my settings come from where the publisher suggests, like Miracle, Kentucky. I wrote that book for Summerside’s Love Finds You line. Other times I choose my settings based on my own interest in the area. Many times I take a research trip there.

  8. Writing comes easily to me. It’s a gift from God. I wake up in the mornings with tons of ideas. So whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, I guess both are the same as far as difficulty in writing. Excellent question.

  11. I don’t collect music boxes but I do collect carousels and Painted Ponies and absolutely love your music box carousel.

    How long does it take you to write a book?

  12. I felt like the reasons behind why I started a collection were mostly for sentimental reasons – for example, I collect angels because my dad gave me an angel when I was probably 8 and I’ll never forget how much it meant!
    Is there a sentimental reason behind you collecting music boxes?

  13. Hi, Jo — yes, I do enjoy my carousel collectibles. 🙂

    As for your question — it takes me about 3 months to write an average-length book. Afterwards, there are revisions and copy edits.

  15. I have to ask, Andrea, with all the talk about your collection…how many do you have total (music boxes, carousels, etc) and what are some of the more unique ones?

  19. Hi Andrea, How did you come up with the idea to have brothers as pastors? Did you get the idea after you started writing or before?
    I love music boxes also and my favorite is one I gave my Mom after my Dad died that plays my Dad’s and her song, “I Will Love You Always”. They signed every card they exchanged with “Love Always”.

  20. I so enjoy music boxes and snowballs. Angels also. Was your first writing published? Did you write for magazines and periodicals? I am 72 and a novice writer and find my time to write dwindles from too many interferences. I’m also looking forward to hip replacement surgery in the near future and hope that between therapy sessions I’ll have time to return to my unfinished works. Have you encountered problems like this and if so, how did you conquer the problem? When will you write “Love Finds You in Arlington, TX? LOL I hope I win your book. Thanks Miralee for interviewing Andrea. I’ve enjoyed it.

  24. It took only a few months to get my first book published. It was affirmation from the Lord that I needed to write. However, it took two years after that to get my next one in print. And it took some 3 years for me to sell the story of my heart, “Broken Things.”

  25. Hey, MissKallie — great question. I got the idea for brothers/pastors when my sons were in high school. My oldest wanted to be an evangelist. My middle son considered medical missions. My third son wanted to be in the ministry, but in the business side of things.

  26. Hello, Barb in Arlington, TX! I love TX. I was in Galveston this past February. Loved it. Most businesses there are just recovering from Hurricane Ike, but the media fails to cover that story.
    As for interferences with writing — oh, yes! Life gets in the way. I try to stay focussed on my writing and devote mornings (after my daily devo and coffee with God). Then in the afternoons I get caught up with housework and bills, phone calls, etc.

  32. I like to read Christian fiction. I read more books set in earlier time periods. I am spoiled to modern conveniences, but I like reading about pioneers and survivors. What is your favorite era to read about?

    Wendy & Judy — I think my favorite book out of all I’ve written has to be “Broken Things.” It’s out of print now, but may soon be an e-book. I’ll keep you posted.
