The Next Big Thing!

What is the working title of your book?
My next book releases June 1 and the title is Blowing on Dandelions

Where did the idea come from for the book?  
Through praying for and ministering to so many women who have experienced difficult relationships with their mothers. It’s definitely a romance, but it’s so much more….it contains a strong women’s thread, as well. 

What genre does your book fall under?  
It’s slotted as historical romance, and it is…but if it was a contemporary, I’d say 50% romance, 50% women’s fiction. 


Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?  

Katherine, my heroine, is 32, and I think the perfect actress would be Nicole Kidman, without the accent, LOL! I love her personality and depth of character.

The hero is a little harder to choose. He’s a quiet man who works with his hands, and he’s handsome and kind. Hmm…. I think I could see Orlando Bloom playing the lead for Micah in 1880. Since he’s 36 yrs old now, that’s about perfect for Micah, as well!






What is the one-two sentence synopsis of your book?  

When her emotionally destructive mother moves in, it threatens Katherine’s family, her heart, and a potential new love. Can she summon the faith and strength to transform her life and relationships?



Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I am represented by Tamela Hancock Murray of the Steve Laube agency, and the book is published by David C Cook 


How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?  
I think about five months, start to finish, then I gave myself a month for revisions and edits, and turned it in a week or two early. 


Who or What inspired you to write this book?  

I minister to and counsel women within our church setting who are hurting and needing prayer. I’ve dealt with a number of women who’ve struggled with their mother, but after talking to one woman who had a particularly stressful, ongoing relationship with her mother, I felt the Lord prompting me to write a story that might minister to both mothers and daughters caught in difficult relationships. I wanted it to be a romance as well within a historical setting (which I love writing), so I picked an Old West town and created a wonderful man for Katherine to fall in love with, to help balance out the trauma with her mother. 
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Blowing on Dandelions is the first in a three book series. Book two, Wishing on Buttercups, will contain the same set of characters, but with a couple of new ones added and the spotlight on two people (as the new hero and heroine) that you’ll first meet in book one as secondary characters. I hope that didn’t confuse you too much!

Do Dandelion Wishes Actually Come True?
 
 
Katherine Galloway knew this moment of calm wouldn’t last, blown away like the dandelion seeds she scattered as a girl. In 1880, three years after her husband’s death, she struggles to run an Oregon boardinghouse and raise two girls alone. Things don’t get easier when her critical, domineering mother moves in. Katherine must make the situation work, but standing up for herself and her family while honoring her mother isn’t easy. And with a daughter entering the teenage years, the pressure on Katherine becomes close to overwhelming. Then she crosses paths with Micah Jacobs, a widower who could reignite her heart, but she fears a relationship with him might send things over the edge. She must find the strength, wisdom, hope, and faith to remake her life, for everything is about to change.

  2. What an excellent question, Gail! I hadn’t even thought about it, but now I’ll have to. I’m not sure Meryl would work, and I’m not familiar with Helen. I’ll need to Google her and see if she’d fit.

  3. Ah! I just discovered Maggie Smith…she was the headmistress on the Harry Potter movies. She’d be perfect as Mama, with her (sometimes) stern demeanor, brittle voice, but still has the ability to show kindness when needed.
