Jennifer AlLee “The Pastor’s Wife” Book Give Away

Jennifer AlLee “The Pastor’s Wife” Book Give Away

As a child, Jennifer AlLee lived above a mortuary and had to be very quiet when services were going on downstairs, which solidified her life-long love of books and writing. Jennifer now resides in the grace-filled city of Las Vegas with her husband and teenage son. Her next novel, The Pastor’s Wife, releases in February 2010 from Abingdon Press.

Please leave a comment if you’d like to be entered into the drawing, but be specific. Tell me at least one interesting thing you read about either Jennifer, or her new release.

I’m reading The Pastor’s Wife right now and thoroughly enjoying it. I haven’t finished simply because I’m on a deadline of my own, but I’m finding myself drawn to it when I should be writing. This is a book that won’t disappoint, in either the story line or the writing style. Be sure you pick up a copy of your own!

About THE PASTOR’S WIFE

Maura Sullivan never intended to set foot in Granger, Ohio, again. But when circumstances force her to return, she must face all the disappointments she tried so hard to leave behind: a husband who ignored her, a congregation she couldn’t please, and a God who took away everything she loved.

Nick Shepherd had put the past behind him. At least he thought he had, until the day his estranged wife walked back into town. Intending only to help Maura through her crisis of faith, Nick finds his feelings for her never died. Now, he must face the mistakes he made and find a way to give and receive forgiveness.

As God works in both their lives, Nick and Maura believe they can repair their broken relationship and reunite as man and wife. But Maura has something to tell Nick before they can move forward. It’s what ultimately drove her to leave six years earlier, and the one thing that can destroy the fragile trust they’ve begun to rebuild.

What Others are Saying

ENDORSEMENTS
Jennifer AlLee takes a classic romance situation; two people stuck together by an inheritance, and makes it fresh. The conflict between the pastor and his wife has eternal value. How does a pastor balance his ministry and his family? How can a woman of faith give up on vows made before God?
AlLee does a wonderful job of bringing her characters to life and making you care so much for them. I count myself lucky to have gotten an early look at The Pastor’s Wife.Mary Connealy, Christy award-nominated author of Calico Canyon and Montana Rose

Jennifer AlLee is a light in the world of Christian fiction. Her inspirational, creative, sometimes humorous, always intriguing, prose keeps readers highly motivated to turn pages—even to the point of missing sleep, of which I can attest to personally! The Pastor’s Wife is certainly no exception. With every book AlLee writes, I am continually amazed at how intricately her stories weave throughout, both with captivating story lines and a clear, yet far from preachy, message of God’s redemptive love. The Pastor’s Wife is an absolute winner and a book I’ll keep visible on my “favorites” shelf. I have no doubt Jennifer AlLee will remain a force to reckon with in the months and years to come, for her writing skills match those of many bestselling authors. Keep ’em coming, Jen—and we’ll keep readin’!
Sharlene MacLaren, author of Hannah Grace and Maggie Rose

Featuring realistically drawn characters and a theme so needed in today’s it’s-about-me society, The Pastor’s Wife is a well-crafted, heart-stirring story of love lost…and rediscovered. In my opinion, Jennifer AlLee is an author to watch.
Kim Vogel Sawyer, bestselling author of My Heart Remembers

With wistful yet tightly woven prose, Jennifer AlLee pulls back the drapes in Christian pastorages and lets us see the aching and very real humans who caretake our souls. You will laugh and cry your way through The Pastor’s Wife, an amazing book of romance, social issues, and faith.Patti Lacy, author of An Irishwoman’s Tale and What the Bayou Saw

REVIEWS

AlLee offers an original perspective on some of the high and low points of being a pastor’s wife. Maura doesn’t come across as a very sympathetic character at first, but as the reader gets to know her, it’s easier to understand her choices. This novel provides a fast-paced and touching story.

Share a Laugh—Bless a Friend

Share a Laugh—Bless a Friend

In Honor of Celebrating Friendship Month
By Frankie Sherman
I live in a sleepy little town in the Deep South. Sometimes after my morning workout I’ll have breakfast at our local restaurant with some of my girlfriends. These women are diverse in age and background, but as southern as sweet tea.
Over cups of hot coffee, we share things that only women can appreciate, and men would never understand. It’s times like these I am extremely grateful for this wonderful gift of friendship. No wonder our Creator designed us for fellowship.
In between bites of a wholegrain muffin, my dear friend, Martha, told us about putting her mother in a nursing home and how difficult it had been. Yet in the next breath she reminded us of God’s incredible sense of humor.
It seems her mother hasn’t a clue that she’s a patient there, but firmly believes she’s on staff as an employee. In addition, she had been complaining to management because they weren’t paying her, and had threatened to walk out. Martha is now bringing her mother money in a bank envelope and telling her that the nursing home is doing a direct deposit, and she’s cashed her check. So far Mrs. Floyd continues to see herself as a valued employee and is very helpful. Martha’s just praying her mother won’t ask for a pay raise!
We laughed with Martha till our sides hurt as she told that story. Our laughter made the truth of the situation easier. That’s “why we need girlfriends!”
Anyone who has put a parent in a nursing home realizes how heart wrenching that is. Something precious has ended. Roles have reversed and it hurts like a piercing knife.
This will be a hard journey for Martha, she’ll certainly need her girlfriends, and we’ll be there for her.
I am so glad God gave us a sense of humor and laced it with laughter. When utilized for goodness it will restore a hurting soul. Who’s hurting in your circle of friends today? Now, go share some laughter. Both of you will feel better.

“He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy,” Job 8:21 NKJV.

Author Virginia Smith, presents Third Time’s a Charm, the third installment of the Sister-to-Sister Series. Page-turning humor surrounding the lives of three sisters will once again engage readers, while somber self-discovery will unveil Tori’s struggles, and perhaps a few of your own. In a world with more than a few dysfunctional families, this story will ring true for many.

Bonus!!!

The Inspiration Behind the Main Characters, from Virginia:

I was watching a DVD when I first envisioned Tori Sanderson. In Sweet Home Alabama, Reese Witherspoon is chic, petite, and more than a little headstrong. Plus, she’s ashamed of her upbringing, and therefore insecure even though she enjoys a successful career. That’s exactly how I pictured Tori as I wrote the first two books in the Sister-to-Sister Series. But Tori is several years younger than Reese, so as I wrote the opening chapter of Third Time’s a Charm, I was struggling to come up with the perfect visual image. One evening I saw an advertisement for “Samantha Who,” starring Christina Applegate. I jumped out of my chair and shouted, “That’s her! That’s Tori!” So I gave my character a curly perm to match Christina’s. I Googled the show’s cast and found Barry Watson, who became my model for the handsome handyman, Ryan Adams. And Mitch Jackson is modeled after Michael Weatherly, the gorgeous but suggestively inappropriate Tony DinNozzo on “NCIS.” Sounds like I’m a television junkie, doesn’t it? Not really, but I do like to have a visual image for characters as I write. It helps them come alive in my mind, and hopefully in the minds of my readers, too.

About the book:

There’s not too much in this world that a little retail therapy can’t fix—except maybe the empty hole in your heart from lost and undiscovered love. Tori Sanderson is no exception. Facing abandonment issues with her father, Tori sets out to find the real reason he left her. Along the way she discovers even deeper truths. Add in two matchmaking sisters plus a couple of attractive men vying for Tori’s attention, as well as a tempting job promotion possibility, and you’ve got one confused sister. Through it all, Tori searches for the love she’s been missing all these years.

“The Choice” Contest by Suzanne Woods Fisher

“The Choice” Contest by Suzanne Woods Fisher

“The Choice” Contest and Exciting News!!

Suzanne’s Woods Fisher’s Lancaster Secrets series!

I’m reading this book right now and thoroughly enjoying it! I won’t post a review now, as I’d prefer to wait until I finish, but let’s just say it’s not like a lot of the other Amish books I’ve read. I like the premise of the book….a young woman is in love with an Amish man who decides to leave the faith and join a baseball team. When a tragedy happens in her family, she’s torn between the man she loves and loyalty to her remaining family….and a choice she must make. So far the characters are believable and heartwarming, I’ve already gotten angry with one of the not-so-sympathetic characters, and am rooting for the heroine. More later!

The author is hosting a wonderful Author talk and Book Bomb party….see the details below. Lots of chances to win great prizes, so be sure and check it out.

Be sure to follow along and see what other’s are saying about The Choice – and see you on February 15th for Suzanne’s Author Talk and Book Bomb! Fun. (Buy the book on Feb. 15th, submit your receipt to amy@litfusegroup.com and be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com! Details here!)

About the book:

Lancaster County has always been her home–but where does her heart belong?

One moment Carrie Weaver was looking forward to running away with Lancaster Barnstormers pitcher Solomon Riehl–plans that included leaving the Amish community where they grew up. The next moment she was staring into a future as broken as her heart. Now, Carrie is faced with a choice. But will this opportunity be all she hoped? Or will this decision, this moment in time, change her life forever?

A tender story of love, forgiveness, and looking below the surface, The Choice uncovers the sweet simplicity of the Amish world–and shows that it’s never too late to find your way back to God.

Endorsements

What others are saying:

Stephanie at Coupon Clippin’ Mommy
I have read Christian fiction before but never one that centers around the Amish. I wasn’t sure what I would think at first but once I started reading it I found myself stealing any moment I could to read. Suzanne’s writing had me feeling like I was part of the story; I cared for the people in the book. This book shows how God tests each of us with trials but he is faithful to provide for us.The discussion questions at the end of the book make it perfect for a book club. I will be sure to check out the next book in the Lancaster Country Series!

Julie at Busy Julie
I am generally not a huge fan of Christian fiction. I like it okay, I buy it and I read it, but I usually find it to be terribly predictable: happy life, trouble, crisis of faith, finding faith again, we all live happily ever after. Not that this is a bad plan of action, but do I really want to read that same book over and over? Not really. The Choice is not that book. It’s filled with twists that the reader does not anticipate (at least this one didn’t!), making for a very enjoyable read. This book also gave me some insight to the Amish faith, which I enjoyed learning about. The Choice is the first book in the Lancaster County Secrets series. I was very impressed and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!

Wendy at It’s JUST Me
Wow! What an absolutely exceptional book! I loved it. I gave this book 5 stars. I put Suzanne Woods Fisher right up there with(and maybe even surpassing) other Amish book writers. I was truly caught up in the sorrow and heartache that “Carrie” was feeling. I cried for her losses and then cried tears of joy when she finally found happiness and her place in life. The Character development was excellent. I have to say that I am truly now a fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher.

1/28
Michelle at My Semblance of Sanity
WOW! Suzanne Woods Fisher hits this one out of the park! Fisher took details of Amish culture and an AMAZING plot and took me on a roller coaster of heart break and love….and back dooooown the other side when I least expected it!

Tina at Mad Hatter Mom
Suzanne writes a book that is filled with LIFE! If you are looking for a sweet love story that throws a few monkey wrenches at you just when you think you have it figured out, then this is the book for you! *Warning* This is book one of a new series that Suzanne is writing. Prepare to be hooked!

Sherry at My Journey Back
When I began this book I expected it to be predictable. And I have said before in my reviews those of us that read romances should expect predictability. I mean we read them because we expect the girl to get the guy in the end. And so yes The Choice is predictable in that manner. But that is where predictability ends. I was caught up in this story. There are twists and turns throughout. I was totally surpirsed by the event in Chapter 14 and how it turned out. I never realized who the villian was. In fact I thought I knew who it was and boy was I wrong.

Carie at Carie’s Coins & Cents

Anita at Anita’s Antics
Difficult to put the book down. Suzanne Fisher weaves several smaller stories into the main story creating an exciting and compelling narrative. While there may be a stereotype for Christian fiction books, especially with regards to the Amish, this book broke the mold! Suzanne doesn’t include frivolous information about the Amish lifestyle. She writes, assuming the reader has a basic understanding about the Amish. I, for one, find that refreshing! (She doesn’t insult the reader.)

Groom In Training by Gail Gaymer Martin

2nd book in the Man’s Best Friend Series
Steeple Hill Love Inspired

What’s the Story About?

Steph Wright is a widow with a tragic past, and the memories stifle her ability to let go and move on in life. Along with comfort from her growing faith, Steph finds the much strength and joy in her adorable Border Collie, Fred. When scampering Fred becomes friendly with the new neighbor’s pedigreed Bouvier, Steph meets the home owner’s brother, very handsome Nick Davis. But wth a broken engagement and a busy job, Nick isn’t open to love and romance. Nick’s unpleasant brother puts a damper on having a new neighbor. Yet she’s enjoyed meeting Nick who seems to love the Bouvier more than his brother does.

When Steph needs an escort to a wedding and Nick realizes he’s going alone to the same wedding, he offers to be her not-really-date. Yet dog walks, long talks and a shared love of the Lord, romance seems to edge into their friendship. Steph recognizes that Nick could be the perfect man for her if she could let go of the past. Nick, too, finds his work not as fulfilling and Steph fills his thoughts. He’s amazed at her outlook at life and is drawn to her even more when she meets his mother and clicks. Nick looks at Steph with new eyes while she lets go of the pain of the past and realizes there’s some unexpected groom-in-training going on.
